Emission Reduction Credits - South Coast Air Quality Management District
Located in an Extreme Non-Attainment area, sources in the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) are considered a major source if they emit over 4 tons/year of NOx, SOx, ROG or PM10 and/or over 29 tpy of CO. As such, the ERC trading market in SCAQMD is extremely active.
The SCAQMD is divided into two zones (Coastal and Inland) with those located in the Coastal zone restricted to buying only ERCs generated in the Coastal zone. ERCs in the SCAQMD are quantified in pounds/day. Sources requiring ERCs must calculate their requirements by calculating a daily potential to emit.
